Inherent Shelter.
As the South Montana landscape provides every needed safety from every natural challenge, Heartland Health will stand as a shelter, as much as in its physical and architectural presence, as it will in the medical care it provides for any given ailment. The Crow people see the mountains as protectors, both physically from the elements, and spiritually as the point from which the Creator watches over all. Monumental forms will reinforce the idea of permanence and protection, existing as reinterpretations of the sacred mountains. Life-giving water and the shades of spring and summer materialize in the space through the refreshing palette of enlivened greens and blues. Vertical wood-clad beams and animalistic textiles reference the native architecture of tipi structures and more inseparably tie the design to the flora and fauna of the region. As demonstrated by the people who have inhabited Southeast Montana , whether only recently or for hundreds of years, all we really need has already been given to us and eternally surrounds us.
