The transformative lens through which the city’s
collection of fascinations can be viewed in entirely varied
lights are four distinct seasons ; Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. A single vignette in the city travels in time through all
of these, again and again, year after year. The Kyoto City
Solar Cycle Kiosk celebrates this journey forward with its
Torii gate referential form that allows users to weave
through the seasons.

Semi transparent paper lantern
walls, supported by fiber optic rods, allow users to view
simultaneous structures and preview the seasons to
come, further diffusing the transitions from one to the
next. Overhead LED panels cast seasonally appropriate,
temperature adjusted light downwards, and combine with
other sensorial factors for a fully transportive experience.
